SAA participated in AFSTA Congress 2023: Seed technology and marketing to mitigate climate change

Access to quality seed is a critical step towards ensuring food security and improving the income and livelihoods of smallholder farmers in Africa. African Seed Trade Association - AFSTA is an organization that works to promote seed trade and entrepreneurship in Africa. The AFSTA 2023 Congress was held in Senegal -Dakar at King Fahd Palace Hotel from 06 – 08 March 2023, attracting over 280 participants in Africa and beyond.

SAA at the Reception to celebrate the Birthday of the Japanese Emperor in Ethiopia

The Embassy of Japan in Ethiopia and the Mission of Japan to the African Union hosted the reception to celebrate the 63rd birthday of His Majesty the Emperor on 22 February 2023 at the Ambassador’s Residence in Addis Ababa. Dignitaries including government officials, diplomatic corps, representatives of international organizations, NGOs, and private companies attended the event. At the event, SAA was represented by management and staff from its Strategic Partnership and Ethiopia Country offices....

SAA-Mali organized the Annual Stakeholder Meeting 2023

SAA-Mali organized its Annual Stakeholders’ Workshop from Feb 28 to March 1, 2023, under the theme "Entrepreneurship in agricultural value chains: opportunities, challenges and prospects in the context of Mali".   About 60 agricultural value chain actors and partners from the government, private sector, research and educational institutions as well as NGOs attended the forum.

SAA-Nigeria organized the Annual Stakeholder Meeting 2023

More than 100 stakeholders in the agricultural sector converged in Kano for the 2023 annual stakeholders meeting between 7 and 8 February to discuss solutions to the various constraints faced by farmers and other agriculture value chain actors in Nigeria.

Signing Ceremony of the Grant Assistance Project for Promotion of Decarbonized Rice Production and Processing in Nigeria by MOFA held in Tokyo

On March 3, 2023, the Signing Ceremony of the Grant Assistance for Japanese NGO "Project for Revitalization of Rice Cooperatives and Decarbonization of Rice Production and Processing" was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Tokyo in the presence of First Secretary, Mr. Aminu Abubakar of the Nigerian Embassy in Japan. The SAA President, Dr. Makoto Kitanaka, signed the grant contract at the ceremony.

The joint proposal by the African Development Bank and SAA for improving the livelihoods of small-scale rice farmers in Benin and mitigating climate change has been approved by the PHRDG program under the support of the Government of Japan

“The Project for Improving Rice Productivity by Decarbonizing Cultivation for 12,000 hectares of Irrigated Paddy Fields in the Republic of Benin” jointly proposed by the African Development Bank and the Sasakawa Africa Association, together with SoftBank Corp., has been adopted as a project for the Trust Fund for the Japan Policy and Human Resources Development Grant (PHRDG), a trust fund contributed by the Japanese government.

SAA at the IGNITE Research Summit

The IGNITE (Impacting Gender & Nutrition through Innovative Technical Exchange in Agriculture) project organized a Research Summit in Nairobi (Jan 23 to 25) to share findings and evidence concerning ways of effectively and efficiently increasing women’s empowerment in agriculture as well as equitable consumption of nutritious diets.

SAA participates in “Dakar 2 - Feed Africa Summit: Food Sovereignty and Resilience”

The second Africa Food Summit on agriculture and agribusiness, under the theme Feed Africa: food sovereignty and resilience ‘Dakar 2 Summit,’ was hosted by President Macky Sall of Senegal and Chairperson of the African Union with the African Development Bank Group as co-host between 25 – 27 January 2023.
