Short Movie: From Boda Boda Rider to Successful Farmer: Kiseka Edward’s Inspiring Journey

Uganda
February.21.2025

The Sasakawa Africa Association (SAA) is driving agricultural transformation in Uganda by strengthening community-based farmer organizations and introducing innovative models that enhance smallholder farmers’ capacity.

One such model is the One Stop Center Association (OSCA), established by SAA as a hub for training, market access, and agricultural services. Uganda is home to 14 OSCAs across 12 districts, including the Zirobwe Agaliawamu Agri-business Training Association (ZAABTA), which played a key role in changing the life of Edward Kiseka, a former boda boda rider from Luwero District.

Through agribusiness training and mentorship at ZAABTA and the Zirobwe Kalagala Multipurpose Youth Cooperative, Kiseka successfully transitioned into a thriving farmer. By adopting modern agronomic practices, he significantly improved his production of maize, tomato, cabbage, coffee, and banana.

Kiseka’s success story highlights the impact of SAA’s support for OSCAs, demonstrating how these initiatives are strengthening farmer organizations, empowering individuals, and fostering sustainable agricultural development.
