SAA launched EbRACCA project in Ethiopia
On 2 November 2023, the SAA-Ethiopia launched the three-year project titled Evidence-based Regenerative Agriculture to Address Climate Change in Africa (EbRACCA) funded by African Development Bank through the Japan Policy and Human Resources Development Grant (PHRDG). Focused on the Seka-chekorsa district in the Oromia Region, EbRACCA aims to develop and promote regenerative agriculture practices. Its objectives include establishing an evidence-based understanding of these practices, creating incentives for farmer adoption, documenting and disseminating regenerative agriculture knowledge, and scaling up technology adoption in the region.
The project's inception workshop saw the participation of 35 individuals, including development agents, district experts, officials, and a researcher, with a strong representation of women. EbRACCA targets a 40-60% increase in productivity and a 30% improvement in livelihoods through new crop varieties and regenerative practices. It aims to directly benefit 100,000 and indirectly benefit 250,000 smallholder farmers by 2025, enhancing income, food security, and nutrition.
